Sonnet XIV

In the lower courts, being so many and varied, not everything is considered.
This is one of the many examples:
The teen in this sonnet was unstable. Kinder words could phrase it more appropriately. The people of the town in which she lived knew of her mental condition and in most instances overlooked most of her behavior. However, not everyone was as charitable. It seems this teen was caught shoplifting in a local grocery store, which was witnessed by one of its patrons. The store manager was either unaware of the girls condition or simply had an axe to grind. Nevertheless, he wanted to set an example and pursued the process.

In life it seems injury rears its head.
The tale that follows demonstrates this fact.
You be the judge. A while ago I read
In one of many prints, an inexact
Report about a young unstable teen.
It said she was accused of stealing food
By some impugner saying he had seen
The theft. In consequence, the store pursued
The issue. The teen was arraigned and tried.
The verdict was guilty; no fine or bail
Awarded. Sentence was to serve inside
The bars a single day in county jail.
The jailer found her dead, her mouth ajar.
She slit her wrists for stealing candy bars.
