Walls of Pain
I remember the countless times
I’ve cried alone at home,
Because of each last heartless thing
You’ve thought out loud and thrown.
Each word slashed through my hurting heart
Like a sharpened dagger tip,
And cut deep wounds along my heart
With barbs in each small rip.
The pain you caused was just so deep
I’ve never felt so sad.
I’ll never feel such hurt and loss
As when I make you mad.
I know I’ve learned a lifelong lesson
As how to not feel pain.
Just build the walls around your heart
And you’ll never hurt again.
