Fireflies

As a child I once saw fireflies,
but I have not seen them since.
Under star-filled southern skies
as a child I once saw fireflies.
I thought I saw flash in your eyes
not fires perhaps, but fleeting glints;
as a child I once saw fireflies
but I have not seen them since.
