Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the purpose of this site?

The Amplifier was created to strengthen the voices of experienced and aspiring poets by providing them with an easy, free means with which to present their poems, in a format of their own devising, for a potentially very wide audience.

  2. How much space is included in the free option?

The mini-sites provided under the free option allow for 1MB (one megabyte) of storage. One megabyte equates to at least 40 full pages of poetry. If you need more than that, you can conserve space by placing several poems on each page.

  3. Is there an ad-free alternative?

Yes. Click the "ad-free" link, or click here, to learn more.

  4. Is it possible to request more space or bandwidth?

Yes. Additional space and bandwidth are included in the ad-free option. The free service space limit cannot be increased.

  5. May I post others people's poetry on my mini-site?

No. The Amplifier is intended only for the display of original work.

  6. How does one create one's poetry pages?

One may create pages using one's favorite HTML editor, such as HomeSite, Dreamweaver, Frontpage, or a text editor such as Notepad. These pages may then be uploaded using the Amplifier File Manager. Alternatively, you may create pages directly in your browser, using the powerful built-in HTML Editing tool. (Note: In order to function properly, the HTML Editing tool must be run in Internet Explorer 5.5 or later with Security set to Medium, or Netscape 6.x or later.)

  7. Who owns the copyright on posted work?

Users retain all copyright on all material posted to their mini-sites.

  8. Do you provide assistance with HTML?

We do not, unfortunately, have the time to provide coaching or assistance on general web design and HTML issues. Some resources on the subject may be found here. There is also a support forum on the Poetry Free-for-all where you may post any questions relating to the use of The Amplifier, including questions of basic HTML.

  9. How does one suggest a new category?

If you would like to suggest an additional category for the Directory that you feel would be more appropriate for your poetry, please click here to send an email to the administrator.

  10. Should one submit one's pages to search engines?

The administrator of everypoet.net submits the site regularly to all of the major search engines, such as Google, Altavista, etc. Please do not submit your site to these search engines, as the resulting multiple submissions may be considered "spamming" and result in the banning of everyone's minisites. However, feel free to add your site to any of the many link directories and smaller search engines you may consider useful. We particularly recommend the "Personal Poetry Pages" of Yahoo and DMOZ.

  11. Where do I go for technical support?

We cannot provide technical support on a case-by-case basis. We have (or shortly will have) created Q&A forums on both of our poetry discussion groups, the Poetry Free-for-all and the Pink Palace of Poetitude. If you cannot find a solution there, please post your question in either of those groups. A response from either one of your peers or from a site administrator should be forthcoming.

  12. Can you recommend a full-featured web host?

If you require a full-featured web hosting service, rather than the mini-site poetry hosting services provided by the Amplifier, this may be a good place to begin your search.

  13. Is there an activity requirement?

Yes. If the Amplifier fills up with empty sites, visitors will undoubtedly become discouraged. Empty sites will be regularly transferred to the "Under Construction" category. You may change back to the category of your choice (in the Log In --> Account Setup section) as soon as your site is ready for viewing.
